Shoulda
Said No

As any experienced
rider knows, riding and drinking and drugging don't get it for the long
mileage. It just ain't cool no more to be out of your gourd and mixing
it up with traffic.
So what's this leading to?
Being responsible for yourself and your passenger, and your ride. As a
wise man once said, "moderation in everything."
Dig this story. It's a true
one. Dude A gets a hankering to be one of those rough, tough, biker types.
He likes the image of freedom, broads hanging around, and brotherhood.
But he's got a Jones with the white fright. He comes up with a 1985 Evolution
engine, Paughco rigid frame, and an '82 trans. He figures he's set to move
into that biker world. He's got all the fixings for a really nice custom
ride. But, being a greenhorn, he couldn't put it together himself, so his
brain percolated that he'd lay the hardware on Michael Gatt, owner of Michael's
Motorcycle Works, and let him take care of the trimmings, in the hopes
of fabricating the dream cycle he pictured in his mind's eye and completing
the fantasy of being a biker. But that's all that became of it. After making
a multitude of changes in the design, per the customer's wishes - in fact,
more changes than a Friday night disco D.J. Modifications to the frame
with tabs, brackets, and transmission and motor mounts, etc., etc. Gatt
acceded to the wants and wishes of the customer, and that's what he got.
